Submission Guidelines of Forest Engineering


Submissions must include the following:

1. Contact Information

Phone number, affiliation (specific to college), address (address where you can receive paper letters), postcode, and email address.

2. Paper title

The title should clearly express the center of the paper, and should reflect the most important content in concise and exact words, generally no more than 20 words. The title should avoid the use of non-public abbreviations, characters and codes. Both Chinese and English versions are required.

3. Author

The authors’ names should be accurate and the authors should be able to defend their papers. The author(s) should be responsible for the data and opinions of the paper, and the first author should be the writer and reviser. The first author is not allowed to be the first author if he/she has not graduated from undergraduate level. If the student (master’s degree and PhD) has not graduated from the university, he/she cannot be the corresponding author, and the supervisor needs to be the corresponding author. Both Chinese and English versions are required.

4. Affiliation

The full name of the affiliation should be provided. If it is a university, then the department should also be provided, for example: College of Engineering Technology, Northeastern Forestry University; Research institutes should provide the name according to the actual situation. Both Chinese and English versions are required.

5. Postcode

Each author is required to provide the postcode of his or her own affiliation.

6. Left footnote content

②Project: The funded project (project name and number) should be indicated in the form of a footnote on the first page of the article, e.g., Natural Science Foundation of China (51378265).

About the author: Name, degree, title, research direction and email address of the first author and corresponding author should be provided.

7. Chinese abstract

The abstract is generally composed of four aspects: research purpose, method, results and conclusions, and should focus on the new content and main ideas of the paper, rather than the background and significance, etc. The research purpose should briefly point out the purpose of the work and the scope of the study; the research method should briefly explain the basic approach of the research, including objects, materials and methods; the research results should briefly list the main results, with units, data, statistical significance, etc., and explain their value and limitations; the research conclusions should briefly explain the correct viewpoint, theoretical significance or practical value, and prospects for replication obtained from the results of the study.

8. Key words

The keywords represent the technical terms of the core content of the paper. Please limit your keywords to 5~8 in order to facilitate the search of your paper.

10. English part

The English content including English title of the paper, author(s), authors’ affiliation, English abstract and English keywords must be consistent with the Chinese content; The title and the text of the diagrams in the paper should be provided both in English and Chinese, and the text in the tables should be provided in English only for the first line and the first column (except for the serial number row); Foreign references should be provided in the same way as Chinese references, foreign authors’ names should also be written in the same order as Chinese names, with the last name spelled in full and the first name abbreviated, and both the last and first names capitalized.

11. Content requirements

Introduction: Introduction should include the scientific value of the research object,a brief description of the research progress, main results, problems and difficulties of this selected topic, and the purpose and significance of this research.

Materials and methods: If the paper uses existing theories and methods, only the name of the method, experimental steps, experimental materials and formulas, etc. should be provided in brief, and the source of the literature should be indicated, with no discussion of the principles, except for the author’s innovative methods and improved methods.

Results and analysis: Scientific, reliable and systematic data should be provided, and qualitative and quantitative analysis should be discussed.

Conclusion or discussion: The main conclusions of the research, or the author’s own innovations or improvements in theory, methodology, or technology, as well as issues that need to be further investigated, should be provided.

(1)   All references must be marked in the text with a superscript.

Sort the references in the order in which they are cited. The citation of the reference in the text should be placed in the upper right corner of the last word of the cited content, and the cited reference should be numbered with Arabic numerals in square brackets “[]” in 12-point font with superscript. When citing multiple papers, only the serial numbers of each paper should be listed in square brackets, separated by “,”, e.g., methanol combustion is beneficial for reducing microparticle emissions [3,7,10]. In case of continuous serial number, the starting and ending numbers should be marked. For example, “the auxiliary engine can work continuously under enhanced conditions [3-6]”. 

(2)  Table requirements

Each table in the main text requires the use of a three-line table, and should have a table title in both English and Chinese (consisting of table order and table name, table order should be marked in the order of appearance in the text). The table title should be placed in center at the top of the table, with Chinese in the first line, and English in the second, in bold 10.5-point font. There should be one space between the table order and the table name, no punctuation is allowed in table name, and no punctuation should be added after the table title. If the same unit is used for the whole table, move the unit symbol to the upper right corner of the table header. The design of the table header should be simple and clear, without slashes as much as possible. Chemical symbols or physical quantity symbols can be used in the table header. The data in the table should be accurate and clear. Vacant cells should be filled with a horizontal line “-” (2 digits wide). The abbreviations and symbols in the table must be consistent with those in the text. No punctuation should be added at the end of the text in the table. The text in the table should be in 6-point font whenever possible, but may be reduced if more words or forms are needed, but at least not less than 6-point font. The design of the table should follow the text as closely as possible.

(3)Illustration requirements

The bar chart should be vector graphics, with even, clear main and auxiliary lines, and completely labeled. If there is a need to highlight the lines or content, it should be marked with colored lines or color blocks. Pictures should be clear, with appropriate contrast, if necessary, the picture should be marked with magnification, and color requirements. In order to ensure the quality of printing, pictures are required to be in color (Forest Engineering are all printed in color, and no additional charge for color pictures).

Illustrations include curve diagrams, structure diagrams, schematics, flowcharts, maps and pictures. Illustrations should be correct and consistent with the text; should be “self-explanatory”, in other words, the reader only needs to look at the diagram, the title and the legend to understand the meaning. Illustrations should not be repeated with tables and text representations, and should be as concise as possible. Graphical symbols and various line drawings shall be in accordance with current national standards; the terms, labeled symbols and abbreviations in the figure must be consistent with those used in the text. Each figure should have an exact figure title consisting of figure number and figure name. The figure title should be centered at the bottom of the figure, in both Chinese and English, with Chinese at the top. When there is a figure note or other instructions it should be placed above the figure title and below the figure. The figure name should be written in one blank space after the figure number. The cited figure should indicate the source, with the cited reference number in the upper right corner of the title. If a figure has several sub-graphs, these sub-graphs should all be numbered with serial number (a), (b), etc. and arranged in order, with the sub-graph title placed under the sub-graph.

Note: The relevant maps and other pictures need to be sent to the relevant departments for review and approval, and only those who have the code can be used.

(4) Orthographic and italicized fonts

All letters representing physical quantities should be in italics, letters representing points, lines, and surfaces should also be in italics, while letters representing units shouldn’t be italicized. The letters representing italics can only be one letter and no more.

(5) Level titles. Level titles should be numbered with Arabic numerals in succession, and no more than 3 levels.

(6) Measurements and units. Please use legal units of measurement, and the names, symbols, units and numbers of quantities should comply with national standards, and indicate the case, italics, and top and bottom corner marks of foreign letters.

12. References

A numeric references method is required, in both English and Chinese, and references should be fully and appropriately cited, with a minimum of 17 in general. The normalization of reference is in accordance with GB 7714-2015. All references must be marked in the text, in the form given in the previous section.

13. Calculation method for page charges

Page charge = (Number of characters in the text including spaces + Number of characters equivalent to the figures) * 200 yuan per thousand characters + 600 yuan
Example: The text part (including spaces) is 22,801 characters, and the figures total 1,199 characters, making a total of 24,000 characters. According to the page charge formula, the total is 5,400 yuan.
